PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
